Question - What I/O Modules are available?

Answer - For Symphony I/O Release v1, the following I/O Modules are available:

Question - Which Option cards may be installed in Slot 1, the lower slot?
Answer - Any I/O Module except the Mic Pre Module may be installed in the lower slot.

Question - Which Option cards may be installed in Slot 2, the upper slot?
Answer - Once an I/O Module is installed in the lower slot (Slot 1), any second I/O Module may be installed in the upper slot (Slot 2).

Question - Why do I see overs on Symphony I/O’s meters but not in my DAW’s meters?
Answer - Symphony I/O and Maestro’s over indicators are set to light when 3 or more consecutive full scale samples occur. This threshold may be lower than other hardware or software over indicators, but you probably want to know when overs occur, no?!

Question - What length USB cable may be used.
Answer - USB cables up to 15 feet are supported. Be sure to use a cable that is certified for USB 2 operation.

Question - Are legacy Apogee hardware interfaces (X-Symphony equipped AD16X, DA16X, Rosetta 800) compatible with Maestro 2 and Symphony I/O?
Answer - With Symphony I/O Release 1, these interfaces are not currently compatible. Please consult the Symphony I/O Release schedule for information on an upcoming release that will support these interfaces.

Question - Can I connect Symphony I/O to a Symphony 32 PCI card.
Answer - Connection to a Symphony 32 card isn’t supported. There are currently no plans to support the Symphony 32 card.

Question - Is it possible to run a legacy Symphony system and a Symphony I/O on the same Mac?
Answer - To run a legacy system and a Symphony I/O system on the same Mac, it’s necessary to create separate hard drive partitions, each with their own OS and Symphony 64 drivers and software.

  1. Using the OS X utility Disk Utility, create two partitions (keeping in mind that this erases the hard drive!).

  2. Install a supported version of OS X on each partition (10.5.8 or 10.6.4 is supported for both Symphony I/O and a legacy Symphony system).

  3. Install the Symphony 64 Sept09 Update ( available here) on one partition.

  4. Install the Symphony I/O Release 1.0 on the second partition.

  5. Install your audio software, including plug-ins, on both partitions.

  6. Use Startup Disk System Preference to choose the active partition.

Question - Is it possible to run other Apogee interfaces (such as Duet, One and GiO) and a Symphony I/O on the same Mac.
Answer - Yes it is. Use Maestro 1 with Duet and One, use Maestro 2 with Symphony I/O.

Question - What type of screw is needed to secure DB-25 terminated cables to Symphony I/O’s rear panel Analog In, Analog Out and AES In/Out connectors?
Answer - Use DB-25 connectors equipped with 4-40 thread screws.
